Campaign Staff Announcement

Thad Williamson for Richmond City Council announces senior campaign staff appointments:


Eric Payne has been appointed Campaign Manager. A graduate of James Madison University, Eric has previously managed numerous campaigns at the Council, Mayoral, Legislative, State and National levels, including Sen. Jennifer McClellan and many others. He is former IT Director of the Democratic Party of Virginia and former Chair of the Richmond City Democratic Committee. Eric says: “We are at an important crossroads in Richmond. While we have many difficult challenges, there are also unprecedented opportunities to improve our quality of life. Thad has the unique experience and vision to address these challenges and maximize our successes going forward. I am proud to join his campaign.


Tobias Estes has been appointed Deputy Campaign Manager. A Richmond native and graduate of Virginia State University, Tobias has previously worked for Grassroots Campaigns, Inc. in Washington, DC and for New Virginia Majority, based in Richmond. Tobias says: “I am happy to be a part of this team and am looking forward to helping Thad win in November.”


Teresa Caviness has been appointed Campaign Treasurer and Senior Advisor. As a local business owner and consultant, Teresa offers 25+ years of experience in business strategy, marketing and communications. Her work spans a variety industries and includes both the private and public sectors. She is a proud parent of an RPS student and has been involved in the Open High PTSA and other activities supporting our public schools. She is an alumni of James Madison University where she earned B.S. degrees in Communications and Political Science. She also earned an M.S. in Business from the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School. Teresa says: “I admire Thad’s focus on thoughtful and balanced solutions, and I know that he will take the time to delve into the myriad challenges facing Richmond. We have unparalleled opportunities that can help shape our region for years to come. I trust Thad to work with our citizens and leaders to find the right solutions for now and the future.”


In announcing his team, Thad Williamson stated: “I am delighted to bring on board this talented, experienced and diverse leadership team to help guide the stretch run of our campaign. Together with our team of volunteers and supporters, we will share our message of improving education, fighting poverty, and more effective local government with 5th District voters over the next two months.”


An announcement concerning the campaign Steering Committee will be made next week.
